Drivers’ EEG Responses to Different Distraction Tasks

چکیده
Abstract Driver distraction has been deemed a major cause of traffic accidents. However, drivers’ brain response activities to different types have not well investigated. The purpose this study is investigate the electroencephalography (EEG) tasks. In conducted simulation tests, three secondary tasks (i.e., clock task, 2-back and navigation task) are designed induce driver distractions. Twenty-four participants recruited for differences in concerning results show that comprehensive more significant than single cognitive distraction. Friedman test post hoc two-tailed Nemenyi further identify band among regions. theta energy frontal lobe significantly higher other regions distracted driving, whereas alpha temporal decreases compared These provide theoretical references development detection systems based on EEG signals.

Deep in thought while driving: An EEG study on drivers’ cognitive distraction
Our research employed the EEG to examine the effects of different cognitive tasks (math and decision making problems) on drivers’ cognitive state. Forty-two subjects participated in this study. Two simulated driving sessions, driving with distraction task and driving only, were designed to investigate the impact of a secondary task on EEG responses as well as the driving performance. We found t...
متن کاملElectrophysiological Responses to Expectancy Violations in Semantic and Gambling Tasks: A Comparison of Different EEG Reference Approaches
Dynamically evaluating the outcomes of our actions and thoughts is a fundamental cognitive ability. Given its excellent temporal resolution, the event-related potential (ERP) technology has been used to address this issue. The feedback-related negativity (FRN) component of ERPs has been studied intensively with the averaged linked mastoid reference method (LM). However, it is unknown whether FR...
متن کاملDrivers’ attitudes toward imperfect distraction mitigation strategies
Studies were conducted to assess driver acceptance of and trust in distraction mitigation strategies. Previous studies have shown that in-vehicle tasks undermine driver safety, and that there is a need for strategies to reduce the effects of in-vehicle distractions. Trust and acceptance of such strategies strongly influence their effectiveness. Different strategies intended to reduce distractio...
متن کاملUsing distraction to regulate emotion: insights from EEG theta dynamics.
Distraction is a powerful and widely-used emotion regulation strategy. Although distraction regulates emotion sooner than other cognitive strategies (Thiruchselvam, Blechert, Sheppes, Rydstrom, & Gross, 2011), it is not yet clear whether it is capable of blocking the earliest stages of emotion generation. To address this issue, we capitalized on the excellent temporal resolution of EEG by focus...
متن کاملModeling Driver Distraction from Cognitive Tasks
Driver distraction has become a critical area of study both for research in investigating human multitasking abilities and for practical purposes in developing and constraining new in-vehicle devices. This work utilizes an integratedmodel approach to predict driver distraction from a primarily cognitive secondary task. It integrates existing models for a sentence-span task and driving task and ...
